I had picked this movie up a long time ago and never gotten around to watching it, and so when sorting through my horror movie stack I saw it and decided that I really, really should just go ahead and watch it and be done with it.
The basic plot is that the Mayan calendar wasn’t reflecting when the world would indeed end, but instead when the world wouldstart to end, with a prediction that some ancient aliens would be released from their imprisonment to end the world. An artifact is found that relates to this, and an academic creates an expedition to seek out that area and he recruits a diver who has stopped doing these sorts of expeditions because she lost her husband on the last one.
